Street Mission is a 100% volunteer based charity operating on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

Our goal is to bridge the gap in existing community services to support the needs of disadvantaged people by providing food, linkages to other charities or just listening over a meal.

I retired in 2014 and stepped down from the Street Mission Committee, and the organisation that had been my vocation for 15 years. New projects for Street Mission have to be funded, so I decided to drive for UBER on Friday and Saturday nights to help. All monies went directly into the Street Mission account. After driving my car as an UBER taxi for a few months, all the drivers received an email from management asking why we had decided to drive for UBER, so I replied with my story. Management then contacted me to say that ‘The Project’ CH10 wanted to make a video.
I enjoyed the driving. I told many jokes and stories to the passengers, recruited several volunteers, spread the word, and made money for Street Mission. It was a ‘WIN – WIN’ situation.
