Providing food for the homeless

Street Mission Incorporated - Constitution

CFN 16516

RULES

Street Mission has adopted the 'MODEL RULES' for the incorporation of associations as written by the NSW Department of Fair Trading - In accordance with the Associations Incorporation Act.

OBJECTIVES

1. To raise money for charitable purposes in strict accordance with 'Best Practice' guidelines for charitable organisations in whichever state the fundraising is taking place.

2. The fundraising will be a series of appeals to the public and companies, initially in NSW then Nationally, to solicit donations for specific charitable purposes.

3. The funds which are raised by these appeals will mainly be used to buy food for homeless people, with a particular emphasis on 'Street Kids'. Most of the food will be distributed directly by Street Mission, and some distributed to other charities which have been vetted and approved by Street Mission and judged to have the same, or similar objectives to Street Mission.

These 'other charities' will share these common objectives.

A. To feed, clothe and shelter, as required, homeless or otherwise disadvantaged youth.

B. To counsel youth in an attempt to prevent drug abuse, and encourage drug rehabilitation.

C. To assist youth to get off the streets and back into 'mainframe society'.

D. To attempt to prevent the breakup of family units, thereby preventing 'Street Kids'.

4. Some funds may be donated to other charities, on condition that they are spent in accordance with the above common objectives A,B,C and D, with the main emphasis on providing food for the homeless.

BENEFICIARIES

The organisations which have been vetted and approved so far are as follows:

CHARITY SUBURB STATE

Eventually, it is intended that Street Mission fulfill the nutritional requirements of all homeless and disadvantaged youth throughout Australia.

The assets and income of Street Mission shall be applied solely in furtherance of the above mentioned objectives, and no portion shall be distributed directly or indirectly to the members of the organisation except as bona fide compensation for services rendered or expenses incurred on behalf of the organisation.

In the event of Street Mission being wound up, any surplus assets remaining after the payment of the organisations liabilities, shall be transferred to another charitable organisation in Australia which is a Public Benevolent Institution for the purposes of any Commonwealth taxation Act.

S.O.S. 11 PM SAT 10-7-99 GEORGE ST SYDNEY

A young girl stops me as I walk along a Sydney street,

"Mister, can you spare ten bucks,

So I can go and eat?"

Thin and scrawny, ghostly pale,

Pathetically she told her tale,

Despair and destitution in her eye.

I wonder where this pretty child of god will sleep tonight.

Ten dollars for her food, of course, a lie.

Young lady, I can buy you food

And clothes to keep you warm

And pray to god that you don't come to harm,

But money I won't give you,

Although I feel your pain,

For surely it will end up in your arm.

Poetalan

This poem is true, and is about just one of the 150,000 such people who are living on the streets of Australia. Street Mission, in conjunction with many other organisations, is trying to help them.
