Appeal for donations of food, equipment and volunteers

Street Mission is currently appealing for cooks to prepare food for the Street Mission Cafe that is held on Saturdays. This can be prepared before hand and frozen to be thawed and heated on the day. Restaurants, bakers, anyone that can cook up a satisfying meal are asked to donate meals to us.

Donations of cooking equipment to be used at the Street Mission Cafe are also welcome.

We need more volunteers at the cafe on Saturdays night from 6pm onwards. People who are enthusiastic about working with the homeless please apply!

Call Alan on 02 8901 0679 or Tania Atchinson 0401 716 372 to volunteer your help.
Thanks

Here is the poem by Alan Clarke read out at the Christmas Appeal Dinner on Wednesday 23rd Nov 2005.

Dinner Poem

A thank you to all for attending tonight,
To those on my left, and to those on my right,
Our first Christmas Dinner, a wonderful sight,
So happy am I that you came!!

Thank you committee for all that you do,
There’s Warren & Nolan, & Harriet too,
With Frankie & Jackie, who’ve now joined the crew,
All characters of local fame.

Rupe Hudson I mention, a good honest friend,
Experience, wisdom and wit he doth lend,
My gratitude Rupert to you I extend,
I’m sure that we all do the same.

Dear Tania, how can I ever repay,
All that you’ve done, so I must just say,
Thank you, and good luck on your special day, (baby)
So happy am I that you came.

Stand up volunteers and accept the applause,
Such good work you do for our noble cause,
Mayang & Tomoko, work Saturday nights,
Darby comes down & a poem recites,
Paddy and Jason, work hard don’t you know,
Out on the streets, collecting the dough.
Let’s not forget the rascal called Hui,
She tried, but could not be with us today,
And Veronica, silently beavering away.

Many thanks to our speakers, Michael & Jo,
And the music provided by Kate, La Tee Doh,
Neil Willis supplied us with cookers and pans,
The Bidders for helping us with our plans,
Geoff Munday, you pulled us back from the brink,
When Office of Charities kicked up a stink,
Tirelessly does the accounts without pay,
Thank you sincerely, is all I can say.

Three cheers for our sponsors, DY RSL,
For the money, and for the venue as well,
We’ll toast you tonight with RSL beer,
And ask you to double our funding next year.
