Providing food for the homeless

Poverty in China

Sister Mary Clare looks after approximately 600 poverty cases in Guangdong Province.

Social Security is but a dream in this part of the world, and for those who cannot support themselves, there is only the kindness of others to keep them and their families alive.

Sister Mary Clare took me to see some of the poverty for myself, and Street Mission gives her a little money each year to help her with her wonderful work. She is a very kind and genuine woman.

A few of the families I visited are documented.

1. MR. FAN HUANG BU VILLAGE, GUANGDONG PROVINCE

Mr. Fan is blind, disfigured and disabled as a result of an explosion in the private company he worked for. His wife left him soon after the accident and he has had to resort to begging to support himself and his 12 year old son. His accommodation is not just primitive, but disgusting.

2. MR. LI RONG SUAN XIONG TOU TOWN, GUANGDONG PROVINCE

Mr. Li has 3 young children in his family. He is mentally disabled and unable to work. His wife is physically disabled, but can do a few household chores for her family. The family has no income and relies totally on help from other villagers. There is very little money for food, clothes and education.
