Our Vision

Street Mission is a volunteer based Charity operating in northern Sydney. The goal is to bridge the gap in existing community services to support the needs of disadvantaged people by providing food, linkages to other charities, just listening over a meal or offering new experiences that may change lives.

Street Mission's Programs

Street Mission operates:
Cafes at Manly, Dee Why and Mona Vale for the homeless and disadvantaged; and
a Sailing Program - operated from Pittwater and aimed at disadvantaged children and the disabled from the greater Sydney region.

Community and Street Cafes

Street Mission operates three cafes for the homeless in Sydney's northern beaches region. The Dee Why community cafe is open on Wednesday nights, the Mona Vale community cafe is open on Thursday nights and the Manly Street cafe is open on Saturday nights. We estimate that we serve over 300 meals each month using a 100% volunteer workforce.

The cafes provide a nutritious meal (eg chicken curry and rice, fresh vegetables and dessert) and a supportive, caring atmosphere. Some of Street Mission's clients have been attending for many years. Additionally, warm clothing and bedding is distributed as well as referrals to support agencies.

Many of Street Mission's clients have medical issues and life is tough for them. Our clients include adults and their children.

Sailing Program Details

The Street Mission Sailing Program provides a day out on Pittwater for those in society who have little opportunity or access to these opportunities. The day is typically shared between disadvantaged youth and their carers or social workers in an environment that is free of the normal stresses under which they operate. They have the opportunity to access sailing on a yacht, swimming in Pittwater and having a barbecue at the Basin. Our clients have included disadvantaged or marginalised youth as well as youth and adults with moderate disabilities. They are sourced both locally and from around Sydney. Feedback from our program has been overwhelmingly positive both from a carer and client perspective.

The program provides respite from the pressures that exist daily for our clients and gives them time to interact with their carers in a relaxed way. They have the ability to see that life has more to offer them that they expect and that their current aspect is not all there is.
